I am proud of this body of work which conveys a melancholic beauty with its flowing curves and rich surface. For me the pieces are asking for kindness, something they have been without, but not all can offer solace.

I have always marvelled at tattoos and those committed to them, I think because I am always exploring new ideas I have not settled on a single image that I could be bound to, so I have found this outlet for my fascination. These pieces made from coils and slabs rely on their mimicry of the human flesh to shoulder my tattoo designs.

The pieces on this section are made from a number of different processes including extrusion, coiling and slab building and then finished with gold leaf and iron applied to the surface of the fired forms.
The coiled pieces reflect the movement and folds of the human figure in a resting pose. I don’t wish them to be literal rather a reflection of a moment or detail. The other pieces that are skeletal are taken from the outline drawings of the coiled pieces. I was trying to use as few lines as possible to create similar silhouettes. This in turn lead me to consider the profile of the lines. Picture frames and twisted metal beams influenced this decision.

Abugation was a solo show curated by Tessa Peters for the Marsden Woo Project Space in 2012.
The work was predominately made from the process of coiling. Nearly all were started by following a sketch, but as the piece developed I allowed the material and process lead the way, creating new contours and volumes.
I couldn’t envision the work on standard podiums and was given the freedom to explore alternative ways to display the work. Some stands were already in my possession others were found or bought from auction sites. Some where a tool but many became part of the work in their conception and installation. “Madonna”, “Pibble” and “Ironique” were sold as such.
